Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is the moving spirit behind all the exertions at Madhuvan.
Madhuvanam was started in 1988, by a group of youngsters under the leadership of Sri Krishnan Kartha, who had left his film making profession in search of truth following a spiritual experience. Sri Kartha had by then become well known to serious film enthusiasts as the youngest film maker in the country, who made his debut Hindi film at the age of 23 which entered two international film festivals.
Kartha and his associates were granted personal audiences by Sri Sathya Sai Baba around 49 times between 1989 and 2000. The initiation was that of treading through the path of Wisdom (Jnana) with social commitment which led to the establishment of Madhuvanam at Trivandrum, South India , a centre for learning earthly and ethereal knowledge.
Baba advised Mr. Kartha in 1991, to start a school at Madhuvanam. But it took nine more years to start a free Pre-school named Sisuvikas Bhavan for imparting Montessori English Schooling to rural children.
In order to focus on education Madhuvan Sai Vidyashram Trust was founded as per the Divine instructions in 2005 and Madhuvan Sai Vidyashram School was started. The Trust provides free education under ICSE syllabus for 100 rural children every year from K-10. The beneficiaries are selected in the kindergarten level.
The School is attended by children from affluent families in the adjacent city and suburbs. Through this, the Trust envisages education with such peers so that there will be balanced growth of cognizance for rural children.
This initiative, the trust believes, will reduce the inequality in chances of educating children in higher standards seen in our society now.
